A large and church serving a depressed area of the Metroplex, Bethesda Temple operates a K-6 school out of a wing off of the church, and a retirement/treatment center/homeless shelter across the street (in the old Oakwood Estates complex), a soup kitchen, and youth programs. Ably led by Reverend Ashley Kelly, the church finances these ventures by operating a casino in the evening hours several times a week.
Games include Hearts, Ratting, Turtle Racing, "Frogging", Three Card Monte, and Craps. The students participate as barkers and dealers.
