Theriac
Arcanum
The ability to reshape reality on Theriac is possible by drawing on the border of order and chaos in the energy which surrounds and binds all things down to the spiritual level. This energy infuses nature, life, time, and consciousness itself. On Theriac it is broken into two parts: the Fey and Feyral Arcanums.
The Feyral Arcanum (pronounced Feral) is the entropy of the universe, the basic function of order devolving into chaos. It powers many Evocation and Transmutation spells but spans across all the schools where spells cause destruction. This is especially true for those spells which control or enhance the elements or forces of nature. The Feyral Arcanum was the force most used to power the earlier Age's techno-magical marvels, and the force over which that Age lost control, causing the Feyral Surge.
The Fey Arcanum is the ordered structure at the foundation of reality. Gravity ties matter together, time flows forward, life begets life. The Fey Arcanum may bend these strictures, but rarely breaks them. Spells which perpetuate life or alter matter in non-destructive ways usually draw from the Fey side of magic. The Divination, Enchantment, and Abjuration schools utilize the Fey Arcanum regularly.
Neither Arcanum is inherently 'Good' or 'Evil.' The Evocation school contains the Healing spell. Abjuration has Glyph of Warding. The Arcanums are two sides of a tool, and it is the wielder who determines its use.
Legends tell of the Feyspring, an artifact which cleansed the chaos from the Feyral Arcanum and emitted Fey Arcanum into the world. The most common icons show a giant tree over a bottomless well. If the Feyspring exists, who built it, and what the well contains are the subjects of legend and myth. But if the legends are true the Feyspring may allow brave adventurers to return balance to the Fey and Feyral Arcanum and set right the world.
